Watching Transformers in Beijing

First off – where was the theme song. I was waiting for the chance to sing my terrible translation of “Transformers….more than meets the eye yyyyyyy.”

On Saturday night I had a great time at the Transformers movie. When my 3 classmates and I made it across town to the SoShow theater, sat in those familiar seats…we really felt like we were back in the US of A.

As for the movie itself, I loved it. Okay okay, the plot was not the strongest. And, sometimes Optimus Prime did sound like a speech writer for President Bush.

But, when you are abroad, sometimes you just need a little bit of America every now and again…and this movie was definitely American:

The guy chased and got the girl. The good guys are clearly good and the bad guys are all the way bad. The stakes were high – defending humanity and its freedom. And, the government responsible for dealing with aliens was of course the USA. Who else...not Slovakia?

It reminded me a bit of Independence Day…another movie that had me humming the Star Spangled Banner for at least a week.

Thank you Hollywood for making me feel at home for a couple of hours.
